River Margin was created in 2026 by Melbourne-based visual artist, musician and writer Lana Eileen.

River Margin was created as a space to explore and highlight overlooked aspects of the natural world: tiny wild-growing plants, threatened rivers, things hidden in the undergrowth. The name refers to the riparian zone, a natural border — River Margin is a space where the liminal, the edge-dwelling, the peripheral and the unnoticed can find a voice.

River Margin wants poetry, essays, short fiction, creative non-fiction, photography and visual art that relates in some way to the natural world — ecology, botany, rivers, the wilderness, wildlife — and this can be as broad as the disciplines we accept. We are also open to reviews of related literature or films, and will accept pitches for articles.
