Due to the hundreds of high quality submissions we’ve been receiving so far for our first issue, far more than we would ever be able to publish in a single print edition, for a limited time I’m also opening up submissions for online-only features.  

These will be accepted until 27th September, and will be published and featured on our website on an ongoing basis after that date.  

These will not be included in any print issues, but will still provide exposure for your work and contribute to building this little community of likeminded people who are passionate about ecology, plants, animals and the wilderness, the edge-dwelling, the peripheral, the overlooked.

If your work is selected, it will be published on our website and social media with a link to your work (and/or your social media) as well as your bio. As we are not limited by the constraints of a print issue for this, entries will have a higher acceptance rate. You can submit from anywhere in the world. You will receive an outcome after 27th September.

This is about platforming, sharing and celebrating writers, photographers, artists, ecologists, botanists and others who work with the natural world, and building a sense of shared community. You retain all rights to your work, and we do not charge any fee.

GUIDELINES

Your work must in some way relate to the natural world, whether your focus is ecology, plants, wildlife, wilderness areas or an adjacent field.

For this specific online-only open open call, we are only accepting non-fiction writing (essays, articles), poetry (it has to relate to the natural world), photography and ‘features’ — for features, this is where we conduct a written interview with you about your work.

Writing: Send up to 10,000 words in a PDF document.

Poetry: Send up to 3 poems in a PDF document.

Photography: Send up to 7 photographs as an email attachment or file sharing link (like Google Drive).

Features: Send us a short bio and a description of your work and what you do.

Unfortunately, we are not yet in a position to pay contributors, as we are a new journal.
