Purslane in Dallas, Texas
It's 100 degrees in September, and this plant has never been watered, or fertilized, or encouraged in any way, aside from occasionally being stepped on.
All Purslane asks is that you don't literally poison the earth beneath it (or water too much). In return, it will grow flowers and delicious, edible leaves.
Purslane will always be my mascot plant. I grow it at home by stealing cuttings from sidewalk plants that are destined to meet the weedeater. This plant is my proof that gardening doesn't need to be about control.
